Walking 10,000 steps a day doesn’t make you lose weight

Walking 10,000 steps a day doesn’t make you lose weight

You have surely heard of the fact that it is recommended to walk 10 thousand steps a day in order to stay active and reduce sedentary lifestyle.

But does 10 thousand steps a day lose weight, yes or no?
Well, according to a new study, no.

Apparently, according to researchers at Brigham Young University, who subjected 120 students to a daily routine of 10-15,000 steps a day to evaluate if they were losing weight, this practice can be good advice for maintaining your weight. but not to lose it.

Basically after 24 weeks, the students had gained an average of 2 kilos each.
But how, you will say? Are you gaining weight instead of losing weight?
Not exactly.

In fact, it is estimated that the students, all freshmen, generally gain weight by studying outside the home and eating a little as it happens, but above all by drinking and guzzling off the parents’ radar. In fact, in a year they gain about 4-5 kilos.

As the study lasted 6 months, the researchers concluded that they gained just as much weight as the other freshmen. And then walking 10,000 steps a day didn’t help.

But is this really the case? In fact, this study brings us back to the age-old question.

Does walking make you lose weight?

Walking is a very important activity for maintaining a good body weight. It makes you lose weight, too, but only if we consider some variables. It makes very sedentary obese or very overweight subjects lose weight, and even a lot, who essentially use walking as their first activity ever.

It makes you lose weight even if we are not talking about standard walking, but if you take measures to vary the walk, for example by trying HIIT for walking or walking in non-linear and non-flat paths. In this article you can find in which cases walking makes you lose weight.

So telling people to walk 10 thousand steps a day makes no sense if you don’t know: how they walk, if they walked before, if they varied their diet like non-resident students and so on.

For walkers, I recommend this bombproof workout.
And the right diet for weight loss while walking.
