The diet against depression: why it is important
How can a food plan help against depression, a real disease that we know above all from a psychotherapeutic and psychiatric point of view? Well, the depressive state is not just a mental state, but physical and multifactorial in nature: being depressed leads to suffering from some addiction, limits social life in every area and makes working life difficult. People with depression are often led to believe they don’t have a life out.Â
But according to researchers from the Australian University of Deakin, who led the IMPACT project in collaboration with Swinburne University , there is more than one way out, other than psychotherapeutic intervention. For example the diet.
People with depression often have poor bacterial flora, the result of poor nutrition. The bacterial flora “communicates” through a series of chemical processes both with our immune system and with our brain: a little varied microbiota therefore increases the risk of disease, but also affects the nervous system and mood.Â
In addition to the general recommendations to take care of more sleep and establish good sleep-wake rhythms, do daily physical activity, try to lead an “ordered” life in habits, and not unregulated, doctors in fact recommend a diet richer in fruit, vegetables , oilseeds and wholemeal and natural products, while refined products, sausages, snacks and baked goods should be limited.
