The physiotherapist is the one who has achieved a three- year degree in Physiotherapy with qualifying qualification for the profession. Based on the regulation concerning the expert figure in the rehabilitation sector, we read that:

Become  a physiotherapist

The training of the physiotherapist in the most advanced countries is exclusively of an academic type and provides for a similar university path to get to professional practice.

In Europe there is a basic academic path of 3, 4 or 5 years , excluding specializations and doctorates.

The physiotherapist  in Italy and abroad

Country you go, law you find. Many physiotherapists have to proceed through various phases (with sometimes considerable financial commitment) to have their qualification recognized abroad .

Our profession in Italy is relatively young (just 52 years) compared to countries such as the Netherlands (122 years) and the United Kingdom (117 years) where in the national health services the citizen benefits from “direct access” to physiotherapy.

In Italy, 50,000 are recognized professionals who practice the profession. However, 100 thousand are the braggart who without qualifications and skills carry out rehabilitation activities on unwitting citizens. We remind you  of four basic rules that can help you identify the expert professional:

  1. Verify that the degree title has been issued by the Italian University and, in the case of a foreign qualification, that it has been recognized by the Ministry of Health;
  2. Verify registration with one of the representative associations of physiotherapists, defined by ministerial decree;
  3. Verify whether, during the physiotherapy visit, viewing of the existing clinical documentation is required;
  4. Always ask for the corresponding tax receipt, in the case of a freelance professional.
