Irisina, the new hormone for weight loss?

Irisina, the new hormone for weight loss?

I had already told you about irisin, also known as the ” sport hormone “: discovered relatively recently, this hormone in fact grows in people who are sporty or who exercise regularly. It would strengthen bones, lower cholesterol and increase metabolism, prompting the body to burn more. And it is precisely on this latest property that the experts would have focused in a new study still in progress, in which they will try to understand if irisin can be considered the new hormone for weight loss.

Professor  Martin Senechal , a kinesiologist at New Brunswick University, announced that he wanted to conduct a study on irisin with colleagues: it has been known for some time, he explained, that generic diets do not work for everyone, and that indeed we need to personalized help to lose weight. Irisin would not only help keep blood sugar and cholesterol in check, but it would push the body to burn more calories, increasing total metabolism.

The problem is that irisin varies from person to person and even from sportsman to sportsman. For example, it is not yet clear whether this hormone rises even after or only during exercise as a study had previously established , and whether it is possible to develop drugs that will contain it to fight obesity and diabetes.
Meanwhile, what is known about this unique weight loss hormone to stimulate it naturally is: – irisin would be released during physical activity, especially during aerobic activities – irisin would help convert white adipocytes into brown ones, thus stimulating a increased thermogenesis

– some experts still dispute the existence of irisin, but two important studies have already identified and confirmed the existence of this hormone
– irisin grows with physical activity, but slowly: variations in the plasma quantity of irisin have been found in sedentary people versus people who have been aerobically and sportingly active for no less than 12 weeks, therefore 3 months
– the latter data suggests that for physical activity to have a slimming and thermogenic effect, one must consider the medium-long term (and not expect results after a couple of weeks).
