I can’t lose weight anymore: 6 causes according to Dr. Mosley
I can no longer lose weight : a phrase that I often hear, from people worried that they have a too low metabolism or that something is wrong with their health, something that prevents them from losing weight despite being on a diet . But even those with a low metabolism can lose weight , and even those with poor metabolic conditions, for example a metabolic syndrome or even just problems with blood sugar and insulin resistance, can lose weight effectively. In this article it is Dr. Michael Mosley, the author of the Fast or 5: 2 diet, who answers the question: why am I no longer able to lose weight?
And he does it by indicating six causes that lead to a block in weight loss.
Why am I no longer able to lose weight? Dr Mosley’s answer.
1) You use too many artificial sweeteners: Although they have no calories, sweeteners are not a healthy additive to our gut flora. In fact, they cause changes in the bacterial flora in 50% of people. Better to reduce them and, for example, if we love sweet drinks, replace them with simple acidulated water with lemon.
2) You are afraid of your hunger: hunger is undoubtedly a symptom. Almost always if you are on a diet you feel more hungry. But real hunger must be recognized from emotional or psychological hunger. When our stomach rumbles, we eat. But only then.
3) You eat too many skim cheeses:eat less but eat better, explains Dr. Mosley, especially by introducing whole Greek yogurt and whole dairy products into the diet. They are more satisfying and help metabolism thanks to margaric acid, a type of saturated fatty acid found only in milk and dairy products, and aids in healthy gut flora.
4) Turn a blind eye to pasta and bread: diet yes, but there must be pasta and bread otherwise you can’t do it. Sometimes we automatically rule out any healthier alternatives because we are addicted to these foods. Better to try rye bread, which has a lower glycemic index even if a more intense flavor, and if we want to eat the pasta, cook it and then refrigerate it in the fridge (seasoned with a teaspoon of oil) and then reheat it. This reduces its glycemic load. And then vary, damn it.
5) You rely too much on self-control: diet yes, as long as following it is not synonymous with spending a night in a cage. Better to help yourself by freeing the pantry from all the foods that we cannot eat, and organizing the fridge and pantry so as to have low-calorie alternatives in front of your eyes (such as vegetables, natural tuna, citrus fruits).
6) You make too many smoothies: watch out for smoothies and juices if they contain too much fruit. The calories are the same, but drinking them instead of eating the fruit is a way to raise your blood sugar and get less satiated, by reducing fiber. In short, it is better to focus on whole vegetables and fruit.
