How to know who has read the messages in a WhatsApp group

The double check, with the so-called “blue ticks”, marked a real turning point in the life of WhatsApp. Before this feature was introduced, to know if the recipient had read our message we could only do one thing: wait for a reply. With the blue ticks everything changed. Now we are there waiting for the gray ticks to turn blue. If they change color, we are sure that the message has been read, even if we have not received a reply.

However, the speech changes when we use WhatsApp groups . In fact, blue ticks appear in a group only when all members have read the message. Likewise, we won’t see any blue double ticks if the message has only been read by some group chat users.

This feature of the application can be confusing. In individual chats it is easy to know if a message has been read, just know the meanings of the various symbols (ticks) that appear prominently in the messages. In groups it is different. Many users cannot tell if a message sent in a group has been read or not. In fact, WhatsApp allows you to know, also indicating the time when the message was read, even if not everyone has done so. In this way, it is possible to know who is interested and who has read but does not want to answer.

Knowing if a group’s message has been read: this is where the ticks “hide”

This feature is less well known than the blue ticks of single chats. In fact, in groups, the ticks are a bit “hidden” and you need to know where to look to find them. There is nothing complicated. Just proceed like this:

On iPhone , just slide the message to the left and the message info page will appear, where you can see who has read the message and at what time.

On Android (and other operating systems other than Apple’s iOS), you need to long click on the message we sent until the menu appears at the top. Then click on the “i” and the message info page will appear with ticks (either gray or blue) and possibly the time of reading.

Here is an example of a group’s “message info” screen:

Furthermore, in all phone models, just click on the name of a contact in the “ message info ” page and both the time in which the message was delivered and the time in which it was read will appear.
