How to get rid of cellulite? A fitness trainer, Geralyn Coopersmith , author of the book “Fit and female”, explains that it is not possible to completely eliminate cellulite, but it can be reduced without wasting large sums of money and without beauty treatments.

What is cellulite

Cellulite, explains Geralyn, is nothing more than body fat.

However, given its location, which is just below the epidermis, cellulite looks different than normal body fat. The fat particles are in fact trapped in small chambers of skin and connective tissue that allow the fat to be glimpsed on the surface with an appearance reminiscent of that of orange peel.

About 85% of women suffer from it, she explains, in forms ranging from mild to severe.
The fact that it is largely more present in women than in men is due, according to the trainer, to the type of skin thickness.

Cellulite is divided into two types.

  • A “compression” cellulite that is highlighted only when the body is in positions where the skin is compressed, therefore the fat cells are pushed towards the skin. For example if you are lying down or if you squeeze your thigh between your fingers or if you wear clothes that are too tight or if you keep your legs crossed. This is the mild form of cellulite, i.e. the one that does not emerge from the skin under normal conditions, for example when standing.
  • The other is what we can define as true cellulite, which can be seen well regardless of the position of our body, and which affects the conformation, giving a mattress-like appearance to the skin. Its formation has a lot to do with hormonal and genetic factors.

Among the genetic factors we have the type of skin. Among the hormonal ones, the variation of female hormones, usually with estrogen predominance: which is the other reason why men suffer less from it, but those who suffer from it often have less testosterone.
Due to these factors, even thin women can suffer from cellulite, but cellulite generally worsens as body fat increases.

Furthermore, the loss of elasticity of the skin and the tendency to make crash diets that reduce the percentage of lean mass over time tend to worsen cellulite.
