Does eating before bed make you fat?
No, according to a new Japanese study.
According to researchers at the University of Okayama, who analyzed the blood glucose values of a group of people aged 40 to 75 depending on their eating habits for three years, these did not vary if those who went to sleep ate something immediately before.
Looking at the values of glycated hemoglobin , the scientists realized that this does not depend on the habit of eating before bed, but that it was instead influenced by factors such as smoking, alcohol, blood pressure, weight, triglycerides. and the level of physical activity.
So if a person has a low body weight, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink and has normal metabolic values, that you eat before going to bed or wait two hours after dinner it doesn’t matter.
The habit of eating and sleeping immediately afterwards does not create blood sugar problems.
But there is more.
In stressed people, eating before bed can be a way to ensure a good night’s sleep .
EAT BEFORE SLEEPING: HERE ARE SOME USEFUL SNACKS
Drinking a glass of warm cow’s milk or soy with a hint of honey, or eating a cookie with a piece of cheese or a small ripe banana, may be ways to reduce the adrenal response and lower cortisol.
Other foods that have proved to be functional are a (ripe) kiwi or cottage cheese.
These foods would allow those who are still “high” at night to fall asleep earlier.
The important thing is that these are small snacks.
While a heavy dinner or a snack that is too high in sugar or fat can create the opposite effect.
And since sleep is a great regulator of metabolism , finding a remedy to sleep earlier or longer is more important than worrying about eating before bed.
