Just today AMD wanted to present its new RX 500 video cards , in particular it focused on the RX 580 and RX 570 models which will be equipped with  second generation Polaris architecture (Polaris Enhanced), the same that will be the basis of the GPU of Xbox Scorpio !

RX 500

AMD had already presented this architecture with a 14nm production process last year, which combined with the Vulkan libraries, guaranteed  a net performance increase compared to the previous generation of video cards, going to compete with the respective Nvidia video cards.

This new series of GPUs  offer stable 60fps gaming at Full HD (1920 × 1080), and Quad HD (2560 × 1440) resolutions , keeping costs low and power consumption low and in addition guarantees all the features to fully enjoy virtual reality. .

The RX 580 is in the same market range as the Nvidia GTX 1060, while the RX 570 points to the GTX 1050Ti range, being in both cases more competitive.

Performance

Compared to the previous generation,  the performance increase is noticeable and can almost double when playing at Quad HD resolution (2560 × 1440).

According to a recent study, more than 500 million PC users still use a video card that is over two years old  and they would do well to consider these GPUs to keep up with the times.

The performance of these models are significantly higher than those of the previous generation and are able to guarantee smooth gaming in both Full HD and Quad HD.

If you are not convinced we leave you below the benchmarks made on the new RX 500 video cards .

As you can see, the video cards of the previous generation are not able to offer a high and stable frame rate with the most recent titles on the gaming market such as Battlefield 1 , Overwatch or Doom .

The Raedon RX 580 and RX 570 guarantee frame rates above 60fps, in 1080p and / or 1440p . These new video cards have adopted new technologies compared to those of the previous generation:

  • They adopt a new 14nm FinFET production system . This new feature makes it possible to use higher clock frequencies with greater computing power and at the same time reduce the consumption of the GPU used.
  • AMD introduced  Radeon Chill software which, with certain games, throttles excess GPU performance  by dramatically reducing temperatures and power consumption.

Now you ask, but how is this possible? It’s very simple, the software uses an algorithm that determines how hectic the action is on your screen , managing to dynamically reduce the framerate when the player is stationary or immobile.

This new technology brings a series of benefits such as greater reliability, hardware longevity and lower power consumption .

RX 500

The new RX 580 is equipped with 36 Compute Units with 8GB of VRAM and a computing power of 6.17TFlop . Consumption is very low, at full load it only reaches 185W.

This card is aimed at all gamers who want to play at 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second and beyond.

Instead, the RX 570 has 32 lower frequency compute units and 4GB of dedicated memory . It manages to unleash 5.1TFlop of power (higher than a PS4 Pro) and consumes a maximum of 150W.

This is the ideal choice for those who want to play in Full HD without having any problems with fluidity.

All very nice though .. now let’s move on to the prices.

The RX 580 at launch will cost approximately $ 229 (so in Italy with current taxation it will most likely reach us at 250 euros); instead the RX 570 will cost $ 169 (in Italy it will most likely reach 180 euros).

We remind you that these prices in Euro are not confirmed, we will have to wait for the cards to be released in Italy to see the actual prices. What do you think? Will you buy one of the two RX 500 video cards ?
